Association of Teachers
of Singing, Inc. (NATS)
was founded in 1944 and is now the largest association of teachers of singing in the world -- over 7000 members in the United States, Canada and over 30 countries. (Read more about the history of NATS) Our membership consists of teachers of singing who hold positions at colleges and universities, maintain private studios as Independent Teachers, collaborative pianists, and voice scientists. Fourteen regions are organized in the United States and Canada, and the North Central Region has chapters in five states/provinces: Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan. Warm greetings to you from Wisconsin! As your Regional Governor, I'd like to welcome you to our North Central website, and encourage you
to visit it and the National Website often. There you'll find links to important information about upcoming auditions, workshops and national conferences, membership instructions for new and renewing members, education advancement through sites such as Vocapedia, and the complete archives of the Journal of Singing, the latest job postings and more.

75th Anniversary Celebration
Our North Central Regional winner, Laura Basse, was awarded 6th place in the 2020 NATSAA Final round, recently held in New York City! Laura was chosen out of a field of 12 singers and receives a $1000 award.
Her repertoire (chosen by the adjudicators) in the finals was:
"Furie terribili" (Rinaldo)- Handel
"Immer leiser wird mein Schlummer" - Brahms
"Sea-Snatch", "Praises of God" (Hermit Songs) - Barber
"Senza mamma" (Suor Angelica) - Puccini
"Ma, rendi pur contento" - Bellini
Laura has sung all over the world and at Carnegie Hall in a sold-out debut concert. She has worked with notable singers Sherrill Milnes, Evelyn Lear, Carol Vaness, Sylvia McNair and Timothy Noble. She studies with Wisconsin NATS member Tanya Kruse-Ruck(UWM). Laura lives with her husband, Ryan in Helenville, a small town in southeastern WI.
